Minecraft Miner's Bread
A simple wheat brick loaf that restores hunger in the game — we bake it for real from flour, water and yeast.

Bread is the most basic food in Minecraft: to craft a loaf you gather three wheat and lay them in a row. It's the first thing every miner bakes to keep from starving down in the mines. Our bread is just as honest and simple — flour, water, yeast and a pinch of salt make a fragrant golden brick with a crisp crust.
🧺 Ingredients
🍽 8 servings👩🍳 Method
- 1
Activate the yeast
Dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water and let stand 10 minutes until a foamy cap forms.
- 2
Knead the dough
Mix the flour with salt, pour in the yeast water and oil. Knead into a smooth, soft dough for 8–10 minutes.
- 3
First proof
Cover the bowl with a towel and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour until doubled.
- 4
Shape the brick
Punch the dough down, shape a tight rectangular 'brick' and place it in a loaf pan or on a baking sheet.
- 5
Second proof
Let it rise another 30 minutes, score 2–3 slashes on top and brush with water for a crusty finish.
- 6
Bake
Bake at 220 °C for 25–30 minutes until golden. The loaf is done when it sounds hollow on the bottom.
💡 Tips
- 💡
For a neat 'brick' like in the game, bake the bread in a rectangular loaf pan.
- 💡
Don't slice the bread hot: let it cool at least 20 minutes or the crumb will squash.
🔄 Swaps & variations
- 🔄
Whole-grain miner's bread: swap a third of the flour for whole-wheat for an earthier flavour.

❓ Frequently asked questions
How is bread crafted in Minecraft?
To craft a loaf you grow and harvest three wheat, then place them in a row on the crafting table. In the game bread restores five hunger points, making it every miner's staple food.
Why isn't my dough rising?
Usually the water was too hot and killed the yeast, or the yeast was stale. The water should be lukewarm (about 35–40 °C), body temperature, not hot.
How do I get a crispy crust?
Brush the loaf with water before baking and place a bowl of boiling water on the oven floor — the steam gives a firm, crispy crust.
