Link's Elixir Soup from The Legend of Zelda
Thick and reviving pumpkin, carrot and ginger soup — inspired by the Elixir Soup from The Wind Waker, made by Link's grandmother.
In The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Link's grandmother makes him Elixir Soup — a nourishing dish that restores all his hearts at once. Our version is a warming pumpkin soup with ginger and coconut milk that energizes you no less than any in-game potion.

The base
Heat the oil in a pot. Fry the finely chopped onion for 5 minutes until soft, add garlic and grated ginger, cook for another minute.

Simmering
Add diced pumpkin and carrots. Sprinkle with turmeric and stir. Pour in the stock and simmer on medium heat for 20 minutes until the vegetables are tender.

Blending
Remove from heat and blend with an immersion blender until completely smooth.

Finishing
Return to the heat, stir in the coconut milk, season with salt and pepper. Warm through for 2–3 minutes without boiling.

Serving
Ladle into bowls and top with toasted pumpkin seeds.

The soup comes out thicker if you hold back some stock before blending and add it to taste afterwards.

Coconut milk can be swapped for cream — the flavor will be softer and creamier.
