Kaer Morhen Spiced Hot Ale
A warming spiced ale with honey and spices — a fireside drink of the witchers' keep from The Witcher.
After a long road across the snowy Continent the witchers warm up by the fire of Kaer Morhen with a mug of hot ale. Dark beer is heated with honey, cinnamon and cloves, with a twist of orange zest — a fragrant, warming drink like mulled wine but made with beer. The alcohol mostly cooks off, leaving warm spice behind.
🧺 Ingredients
🍽 2 servings👩🍳 Method
- 1
Warm the beer
Pour the beer into a saucepan and set over low heat.
- 2
Add the spices
Add the honey, cinnamon, cloves and orange zest.
- 3
Infuse
Warm for 8–10 minutes without boiling so the beer doesn't turn bitter.
- 4
Serve
Strain out the spices and pour into mugs. Serve hot.
💡 Tips
- 💡
Don't boil the ale — boiling makes it bitter and drives off the aroma.
- 💡
For a non-alcoholic version swap the beer for dark kvass or spiced apple juice.
