Liyue Moon Pie from Genshin Impact: Chinese Festival Dessert
In Genshin Impact, Liyue is the region inspired by China. At the Lantern Rite Festival (the game's version of the Lantern Festival) Liyue prepares mooncakes — and this game element became a bridge to real Chinese culinary tradition.
History and origin
Mooncakes (yuèbǐng) are the traditional Chinese treat for the Mid-Autumn Festival (Zhōngqiūjié). Their round shape symbolises the full moon and family reunion. The most famous fillings are lotus paste and salted egg yolk paste.
Key ingredients
Mooncakes need a special dough made from golden syrup, oil and lye water. Lotus paste or anko filling is wrapped around a salted egg yolk and pressed into a wooden mould with a pattern.
How to cook at home
A simplified version: snow skin mooncakes with no baking (bīng pí yuèbǐng). Dough made from glutinous rice flour is steamed, cooled and shaped by hand. No mould needed — simply roll into a ball and flatten.
Try this recipe at home — it's much easier than it looks and will make you feel part of your favourite universe.
