Harvest Moon (Story of Seasons) is the farming game series that raised a generation of 90s and 2000s gamers. Cooking on the farm is part of gameplay: jam, pancakes, soups and pies from your own harvest.

History and origin

The first Harvest Moon launched in 1996. Developer Yasuhiro Wada wanted to remind city children of the value of rural work and simple food. The cooking recipes in the game are adaptations of Japanese rural cuisine.

Key ingredients

A Harvest Moon-style recipe: pancakes with homemade raspberry jam. For the pancakes: flour, eggs, milk, sugar, butter. Jam: raspberries and sugar, cooked for 20 minutes without pectin (the berries release their own juice).

How to cook at home

Homemade jam without pectin: use 350g of sugar per 500g of fruit (less than in classic recipes) — this preserves the berry flavour better. Skim the foam at the start of cooking and do not stir too vigorously.

Try this recipe at home — it's much easier than it looks and will make you feel part of your favourite universe.
