Food from Final Fantasy XIV: the Culinary Craft of Eorzea
In Final Fantasy XIV, the Culinarian is a full profession with thousands of recipes. Dishes grant 30-minute buffs and are critically important for high-level content. The FF14 community has produced entire cookbooks of real-world versions of in-game recipes.
History and origin
The Culinarian in FF14 is considered one of the best crafting jobs across all MMORPGs: recipes are divided by region (La Noscea, Abalathia, Othard) and difficulty scales by level. In-game dishes are inspired by real Mediterranean and Asian cuisine.
Key ingredients
An iconic FF14 dish — 'Eorzean Pan-Fried Gilt-head Bream': fish fried with lemon and herbs on a bed of rice with green sauce (a salsa verde analogue). A simple recipe that looks sophisticated at home.
How to cook at home
Fry the fish skin-side down for three-quarters of the total time — the skin crisps and protects the flesh from drying. Flip only in the last 1–2 minutes. Add lemon juice only just before serving, or it will 'cook' the fish.
Try this recipe at home — it's much easier than it looks and will make you feel part of your favourite universe.
