Nuka-Cola Cake from Fallout: a Post-Apocalyptic Recipe

Nuka-Cola is the main symbol of the Fallout universe: blue soda with an atomic logo conquered the wasteland. A Nuka-Cola-themed cake is a popular prop for Fallout-themed parties.

History and origin

Nuka-Cola appeared in the original Fallout (1997) as a parody of Coca-Cola and post-war American consumer culture. In Fallout 4 it became a key quest element, and there are now more than 10 varieties of the drink.

Key ingredients

Nuka-Cola cake: a moist vanilla sponge soaked with fizzy drink (Fanta for a fruity note), blue buttercream frosting (with food colouring), decorated with small Nuka-Cola bottles made from fondant.

How to cook at home

Getting the blue colour of the frosting right is tricky: mix blue and purple food colouring. For a deeper blue, let the frosted cake 'rest' in the fridge for 2 hours — the colour deepens over time.

Try this recipe at home — it's much easier than it looks and will make you feel part of your favourite universe.
